Sometimes when the husband and little dude want to sneak in a little father-son bonding, they do it around the 192-foot slot-car track (the biggest in the five-state area) at Scale Model Supplies.

For $6 you get everything you need for speed: the slot car, lane, controller and 15 minutes of track time. It’s not cheap, but these suckers fly and it takes some skillful driving to keep them on the track. (Four words: Let. Go. Around. Corners.) Afterwards, there’s plenty of hobby-shop treasures to scope out, like model rockets and cars, Hot Wheels, collectible horses and trains.

Because you may as well let them have a little fun before you really have to start worrying about their driving.
